Looking down New Road towards the cross the toll gates can be seen with the tollhouse, being the single-storey house, on the left.

Looking up Loudoun Street towards Poosie Nancies this photo shows J.M.Jamieson's shop on the right

 

This is taken a little further down Loudoun Street than the one above right and shows the Loudoun Arms Hotel on the extreme left which was then known as McLellands Inn.

The Mauchline Dykefield Colliery was opened in 1938and provided a lot of employment for the village and surrounding area. In the early 1950's it employed around 800 people and producing quarter of a million tons of coal a year. The pit closed on 26th August 1966 with the remaining miners being transfered to the Barony near Auchinleck

 

The Burns Memorial which is situated at the north side of the town. This photo on the right was taken during the construction of the monument.
