| The Mauchline Dykefield Colliery was opened in 1938and provided a lot of employment for the village and surrounding area. In the early 1950's it employed around 800 people and producing quarter of a million tons of coal a year. The pit closed on 26th August 1966 with the remaining miners being transfered to the Barony near Auchinleck |
