Looking at the two top pictures quite a lot has changed especially on the left hand side
of the High Street. The old picture on the left shows Number 3 High Street where John
Richmond, the writer, as he was locally called lived. Richmond was a great friend of Burns.
Richmonds house was called the "New hoose of the Kilnknows" and the house before that, now
the Ballochmyle Inn, being the "Old hoose of the Kilnknows". If you look closly at the picture
on the top left you can just see the start of the Archway (pictured left) which acted as an
entrance to the courtyard and dating from the 16th century.
